Baccarat Basics

Online Baccarat game is perhaps the simplest type of all the baccarat games. Indeed, how easy it can be: you place a bet and the casino does everything for you - counts hand total, decides on whether to take a third card or not and pays out the wins.

The game is played between a player (or up to 14 players in offline casinos) and a dealer (who represents the casino) and the aim of the game is to predict which hand would win the game - the player hand or the dealer hand or will there be a tie, by placing a bet in a corresponding circle. The hand with a value closest to 9 wins.

However, let's take a closer look at how the game is played in order to make sure we know everything a player should know before he decides to play even free baccarat online.

Basic Baccarat Information

The Value of Cards

Two of Clubs Nine of Spades All small cards 2-9 are valued as numbered. 3 stands for three points,
9 - nine etc.
Ten of Hearts Jack of Spades Queen of Hearts King of Clubs All face cards and tens have the value of 0 (zero).
Ace of Clubs Aces are counted as 1.

Baccarat Hands

Five of Diamonds Four of Clubs

Natural

A hand of two cards that totals 8 or 9. This hand is an automatic win and no cards are dealt more. The highest Natural (9) can be reached with hands 4+5; 10+9; A+8.

How to Count Hands

The sum of the hand is calculated by adding up the value of the cards, the tens digit being ignored as the total cannot be higher than 9. This means that if a hand's total is 13, the ten is dropped making the total = 3.
No one can bust in Baccarat as the highest possible hand is 9 and all the hands above nine drop tens.

Five of Clubs Three of Diamonds = 8 Such hands are the easiest to calculate as they do not exceed 9.
Queen of Hearts Four of Clubs = 4 As Queens, 10's, Jacks and Kings equal 0, this hand totals 4.
Ace of Diamonds Six of Diamonds = 7 Ace counts as 1, therefore this hand totals 7.
Ace of Clubs Jack of Diamonds = 1 Ace counts as 1, therefore this hand totals 1.
Eight of Diamonds Six of Hearts = 4 As 8+6=14, which is higher than 9, the ten is dropped, making the hand total 4.
